Environmental Certification

ISO 14001:2004

Office Depot operates an Environmental Management System which complies with the requirements of BS EN ISO 14001:2004.

This accreditation was issued originally to Office Depot on 24th October 2002 and we have maintained our accreditation, unbroken, ever since.

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

The FSC is an international network to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. Office Depot has sourced several FSC accredited ranges for our catalogues, including 3 furniture collections.

British Office Supplies and Services Federation (BOSS)

Our commitment to the environment extends far beyond our own operations as one of our UK executive chairs the BOSS Environmental Committee.

Under Office Depot’s committee chairmanship, BOSS has improved the UK industry scheme that prepares companies for third-party certification under the environmental standard ISO14001.

Our membership number is 40233.

WWF-UK

Office Depot is a member of the WWF-UK Forest & Trade Network.

Members are committed to increasing their wood and paper product requirements from sources that are credibly and independently certified as being well managed.

British Safety Council

Office Depot is a member of the British Safety Council, committed to working for Health, Safety & Environmental Best Practice.

London Remade

Office Depot is a principal sponsor of London Remade, an organisation focused on recycling and creating environmental solutions for a sustainable city. We encourage ‘Greening the Office’ initiatives and environmental awareness presentations.

Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC)

Office Depot was one of two commercial organisations invited to join the EAUC Sustainable Procurement Steering Committee. This is a UK Government funded body whole goal is to provide advice and guidance on sustainable consumption to the UK education sector.

Green Apple Awards

Office Depot has won a Gold Award in the Retail and Wholesale category at the 2007 “National Green Apple Awards” for our customer-reporting package that shows clearly our customers position on environmental purchasing.

European Office Products Awards 2007

Office Depot was proud to be awarded, for the third year in a row, The European Office Products (Reseller) Award.

BOSS Awards 2007

Office Depot won the very prestigious BOSS Environment Award in 2007. The BOSS Industry Awards recognise and reward those in the office products industry who can demonstrate real excellence, either as individuals or through the successful performance of their business.

BRE Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM)

Our new Leicester facility officially opened in August 2007. BREEAM is a surveying standard that assesses the performance of buildings; Leicester office was awarded a ‘very good’ rating by the BREEAM assessment board for the sustainability of the site.

2008 BSI ISO14001 Innovation Award

Office Depot has won the BSI ISO14001 Innovation Award for 2008. We beat hundreds of entrants from companies in a range of industries (any company with ISO14001 certified by BSI were legible). We won the award based on our strong focus on helping our customers reduce their impact on the environment, through initiatives such as the Enlighten website and the environmental workbook and our Be Green, Buy Green, Sell Green framework. Without Executive Board sponsorship of our environmental system, our award submission would not have been considered.

Environmental Leadership Award

The Office Products International (OPI) European Office Products Awards 2009 took place in Frankfurt on the 2nd February 2009.

We were short-listed in the category for “environmental responsibility” in which we have already won the award for three years in a row.

Judges were impressed by the professionalism of all filed applications in all categories - notably for “environmental responsibility”. In an unexpected twist, the evening was interrupted to announce a special recognition award for “outstanding environmental leadership”. As first ever winner of this newly created award, Office Depot was rewarded for its proven track record, long term commitment towards environment and implementing an industry leading environmental strategy.
